Ab work

Well, Today I started on ab work. I'm not sure if many know this, but when a women is pregnant in order to adjust to her growing baby (and belly) her stomach muscles literally separate. For some women the muscles don't go back together postpartum, and that is why some have the "mummy tummy." It's not even that they are chubby, it's that the organs are literally being held in by skin instead of muscle. That is why those stomach bands (B-band, postpartum band, etc) help because they help the stomach muscles come back together. Also, if a women does ab crunches, or any kind of stomach exercise and her muscles have not come back together, she can cause her stomach muscles to separate more, which is no good.

Fortunately, when I went on my six week check up, my stomach muscles had returned, but I haven't had the energy to start doing ab exercises until now. Awhile ago we bought this wheel thing and I'm not sure if I can actually describe how to use it, but it exercises your abs, back, and arm muscles. It's actually pretty nifty, and a real work out. I used it today before my run. Let's see if it works. I'll keep you updated on my progress and if it helps flatten this belly of mine.

What workouts have you done or are doing to get the tummy in tone?

Foods and Running

I know this may sound weird, but the more I eat and the less I exercise the more weight I lose. Mystery. I am now at 109 lbs.  Not that I was on a diet before, I just snacked more, but I've always been a snacker. Any who, I went on a 2.5 mile run and averaged a 8:45 mile pace. It's hard for me not to be a little disappointed considering I used to run 6.5 minute mile pace. The whole postpartum body thing has thrown my center of gravity off and I've kind had to train myself to stride differently to adjust to my new body. When I first started running I was like JELLO, my feet dragged and I made that annoying sound that people make when they drag their feet. Now, I've learned to run less flat-footed, and roll my fee more in my strides, which has made running easier, but I'm still not where I liked to be. One day I suppose. It's just going to take work, persistence, and dedication.

How is your workout going? Any one have any tips?

Hello All

Today I looked in the mirror and was actually not horrified at what I saw, my pudgy stomach was less pudgy! Yay!

Getting use to my post-baby body has not been so easy. It really is like living in a different body. In fact the whole process of bringing a child into this world has gifted me with the experience of living in multiple shapes: a cute little tummy to a huge bowling ball tummy, back down to a not so cute postpartum "little" tummy that is soft and pudgy. I'll admit, being pregnant was fun, and eating a lot was even funner, but losing 45 lbs after, not so fun. So here I am on this blog in hopes to have some people join me (and my husband) in getting back in shape, and living a healthy, happy lifestyle.

So far I've been running about 6 miles a week. Not much. But have you ever ran with a jogger and baby (she weighs 15 lbs and the jogger weighs ??) it's soo tiring and my arms are like jello after a few miles of running. However, I must admit, my arms are getting a work out which is well needed.

So here I am at 110 lbs. I was 100 lbs pre-baby.

You see that bump/tummy. Yeah not cool, it needs to go yo. I don't want to be anorexic or Hollywood skinny but I do want to be fit, and toned.

So who is with my on my new fitness project?
